Vlog Brief Idea:
My vlog will be about 'A Day In The life Of... A Failed Musician.'

I got the idea for the 'A Failed Musician' by trying to think outside the box. Around 2 months ago I had started playing the guitar and wanted to do something that revolves around it. 

It will start with a little music video of a song called 'a day in the life' and that will last for about 2-3 mins. 

The vlog will involve me playing the guitar well and then it will cut to me playing poorly. Then I will be do some normal day things and continue on the day in the life vlog. 

Legal And Ethical Consideration For Vlog

Legal: In my vlog I will be using copyrighted song's called: A Day In The Life- The Beatles, Money- The Drums and My Sweet Lord- George Harrison. 

Ethical: I will respect every ethnicity in this vlog and make sure everyone is respected equally.

Schedule of vlog 

This is a look at what happened on what dates for my vlog. Each colour represents 1 of 4 things. It shows the dates that these things happened and what I done on these dates. This goes from the beginning to the end of my vlog.

Vlog Brief:
My vlog is about 'A Day In The life Of... A Failed Musician.'

There is a warning for people that are sensitive to flashing lights before the video begins 

The vlog starts with a Bold Red Text with the words that say 'Alex Hughes Presents'. The font I used is called Superfly and I downloaded it online.

After the text saying 'Alex Hughes Presents' the camera cuts to a wide angle of the The failed musician (played by me)

The camera slowly zooms out as the music builds up. 

When the main section of the song hits it cuts to a shot of me playing my guitar in the garden as the title shows on screen saying 'A Day in the life of the best musician' instead of saying failed musician. This will be explained later

In the 2 clips I am playing the guitar wrong and not even strumming my guitar strings, this will be explained in the breakdown of the vlog. 

Just as the Intro to the vlog ends it goes into a pop up saying 'waking up' (these show up a few times in the vlog) and then a phone alarm goes of and the day begins.

The next things that happen are normal Vlog things like brushing my teeth, having a shower and eating breakfast. 

There is a part of the vlog where there is 2 me's in my garden but 1 of me is tinted yellow and the other has no tint. The camera also slowly gets closer and closer to the non-tinted me. This will be explained more in the Breakdown of the vlog. 

There is a bit of talking 1 on 1 to the camera after this talking about what really happens in the failed musicians life but its said that it's because he is busy doing stuff on other days.

When I've finished eating, on the way back upstairs I hear a song: Planetarium- La La Land movie. As I'm walking upstairs the music gets progressively louder and when I get to where the music is coming from the music is no longer background music and a shot goes through my eye to show some scenery from the galaxy to show how it makes me feel.

The vlog ends with me finding this new style of musical called 'classical jazz' and deciding to peruse a career in this genre of music.

Before the video stops text comes up on the screen saying that after this I practiced this style of music but still failed in the end. 

I have taken some ideas from the youtuber Casey Neistat. The idea that I took from him is to put down the camera and talk about what's going on. I talk about having 3 showers and how 'executives' don't get back to me.

Full vlog (shortened to 7 mins)

This is my vlog but 7 minutes long... there are a few differences between the 2 vlogs

Difference between 7 minute and 11 minute vlog

There are actually a few differences I made between the 2 different vlogs. The first big difference is that they are different time, one being 11 mins and the other being 7.

I have turned the volumes of the music in the vlog down by about -2 decibels (-8db in total).

A big change that I have done for this 7 minute version is the end of the vlog. In the 11 minute version the ending was just a black screen with text showing up on the saying thank you for watching my vlog. The new one is now me sat in my garden. 
here is a comparison of both: 

As you can see by looking at the two photos there is a clear difference between them:
1. The text on the left is smaller 
2. On the right there is nothing to look at except the black screen.

The ending of the vlog as well was changed fully and I even re-recorded some things for the shorter version. I also changed the music for it as well so it wouldn't be as long.

 I made a video showing all of the major changes in the vlog by making a comparison of both vlogs.  

Breakdown Of Vlog

Watch the vlog before reading any of this

1. Intro 

The intro of the vlog is meant to be something that the failed musician would make. Saying all of the things like 'great' and 'talented' are the things the failed musician say to himself to help his self-esteem.

The music in the intro is from the film Scott Pilgrim Vs The World

As the intro goes on the real him begins to take over the intro by putting words in like 'fake' and 'no good'. This is the real him getting control of himself but it gets cut of rapidly to the real title card 'A Day In The Life Of A Failed Musician' 

That's why if you listen closely you can hear a cut in the audio when the title card comes in because its the failed musicians ego cutting of the intro. 

I also don't actually play the guitar in the intro. That's because the failed musician doesn't really know guitar that well. I also play an electric guitar outside with no cables. That doesn't work out 

                                                                                                 2. Brushing Teeth

At the part of the vlog when I'm brushing my teeth the other me narrating over the background I say that these are songs that I have made. Obviously they are not. The failed musician pretends that these already famous songs are his but never makes up his own music:

                                                                                                 3. The Garden 

The garden part of my vlog is to show the two sides of the failed musician: The ego, and the real person. 

The areas of this part that are a yellow tint are the ego 

The area that is not tinted is the real person.

The ego is what the failed musician dreams he could be like, The ego lives in a different reality where he is loved by everyone and when its mentioned after this scene that he has been inside for 2 years that is because the ego doesn't let himself go outside because he knows what is out there, that's failing. He keeps himself inside to 'practice' the guitar when in reality he is listening to music pretending he is really good. The ego is what shows up for most of the vlog.

The real person is what's in the right corner. The real person is someone who is truly alone. As the camera gets closer and closer to him he gets more and more frustrated with the fact that he cant actually play. There is a part in the scene where it cuts to black and only the real person is shown on camera. This is the one part in the vlog where he is just real and not overshadowed by the ego but its also the part of the vlog where he is most alone. The reason its black is to symbolise him being trapped, In a cage of being nothing in life. Everything that's tinted in this scene is going on inside the real persons head.

Artistic choices in this scene:
I made is so that the 2 clips aren't perfectly lined up on purpose, This is to show that the real person is actually more distant from reality then the ego because he is thinking of what the ego is doing. While I was recording the 2 clips I thought to myself that if I had the camera angle for the me sitting on the chair just a little but lower than when I'm sat in the corner it could mean that he is more distant from the norm. 

The yellow tint in this is to represent a happy feeling that the real person wants to feel. He wants to be able to do music for a career but thinks more about doing it then actually doing something about it. My original idea was to do the whole vlog in this tint and have it fade out at different points when he becomes the real him. I decided that I would rather it be just that scene. I also made it that both clips have cuts at different times from each other because they are so different from each other.

I made hash browns on that day. 

Hash browns are very easily broken and can fall apart very easily, so I thought that corresponded pretty well with the failed musicians ego.  

                                                                                                        5. The galaxy 

This part comes about when the failed musician hears something I called 'classical jazz' and decides to find out where the song is coming from. 

When he gets to where the sound is he is overcome with this feeling of what I would describe as joy. when the camera goes through his eye that is what is going on inside his head, it feels like he is going through the galaxy. This part is just meant to show that he has found something that could change his life around. 

At the end when he says he wont be a failure anymore he is breaking free from his ego and becoming who he actually wants to be.

The end is just a short moment with some text showing up on the screen saying thank you for watching the vlog thinking that he might have actually succeeded but then it shows on screen that he still failed. 

                                                                                            bonus details (no order)

The song Bennie And The Jets by Elton John plays 3 times throughout this video getting progressively slower each time. 

During the intro I took 3 photos of me playing the guitar and put them on a paper template to give it a paper styled vintage look. 

The intro is also meant get progressively more insane as it goes along. 

After reading this with the new information you now know, re-watching the vlog is a whole different experience. 

Copyright claim on vlog

In my vlog I have received 3 copyright claims. These are because I have used 3 copyrights songs in my vlog. Having these claims does not affect my video because:

1. It's an unlisted video (can only be viewed with a link)
2. My channel does not have monetisation so it cant be affected. 

My video is not affected either by these copyright claims. 

The only impact that I had is that it cant be monetised.
